Please come ready help Democrats running for office or to run yourself, to tomorrow’s LCDP monthly meeting, 6PM 7 March 2016, topic College Debt, at Mama June’s Restaurant, 3286 Inner Perimeter Road, Valdosta, GA (facebook event). It’s qualiftying week, so now’s the time to decide to run! Some of the open positions include: Lowndes County Board of Education (Districts 4,5,6,7), Lowndes County Commissioner (Chair, Districts 1, 5), Board of Assessors, County Surveyor, Coroner, Clerk of Courts (Probate), Clerk of Superior Court, Sheriff, Tax Commissioner, Solicitor, Georgia Senator (District 8), Georgia House Representative (Districts 174, 175, 176, 177), US Congress (Districts 1, 8). If you’re not motivated enough, try reading about the Lowndes County Commission 4 to 1 vote to sell an easement to Sabal Trail a year after the same commission voted unanimously they didn’t want that fracked methane pipeline in our county or our state.

Last month, potential and experienced candidates and volunteers talked about what it takes to run and to elect Democrats, at Lowndes County Democratic Party’s Candidate Recruitment & Volunteer Training Workshop, 1 February 2016, as you can see in these videos, including qualifying fees and fundraising, budgetting, spending, and picking three issues, and yes, the pipeline came up.

In addition to learning the responsibilities of open positions, past candidates will be on hand to help you plan a campaign.

Videos: Democratic Values Supporting Local Business @ LCDP 2015-03-02

To prepare for tonight’s meeting, here are videos of last month’s packed meeting at the Board of Elections with the Lowndes County Democratic Party listened and discussed with business speakers.

Public transportation was a very popular topic, as already recommended by both the Chamber and the Development Authority so employees can get to work. As Jim Parker pointed out the necessary $1 million a year would require 1 mil of property tax, or about $60 per property owner. Buses could even run on green corridors!

Videos: GA Rep. Dexter Sharper District 177 @ LCDP 2015-01-05

After a pot luck supper at the new location at the party office, new chair Tom Hochschild presided over a standing-room-only crowd that heard Deb Cox, Dexter Sharper, Demarcus Marshall, and J.D. Rice.

Lowndes County Elections Supervisor Deb Cox said there’s a special election in Lake Park for an unexpired City Council seat, poll workers are needed, and you can register to vote online.

Dexter Sharper, re-elected from District 177 (Valdosta and parts of Lowndes County) to the Georgia House, spoke about the need for early financial education, for gun safety instruction should be required to get a firearm permit, and for medical certification for coroner positions throughout the state of Georgia. Pot luck and quality of life issues: come to the party meeting –Tom Hochschild @ LCDP 2015-01-05

New LCDP Chair Tom Hochschild invited everyone to the monthly party meeting Monday 5 January 2015 at a new location: the LCDP office, 1008 Slater Street, Valdosta, which he noted is near VSU. He made this announcement at the Town Hall Meeting 15 December 2014 organized by Demarcus Marshall, Lowndes County Commissioner, Superdistrict 4; Dr. Marshall will also speak at Monday’s party meeting.

Here are videos of Jason Carter and the other Democratic candidates who came to the Annual Lowndes County Democratic Party Barbecue July 1st 2014.

Valarie Wilson has a runoff Tuesday for Georgia School Superintendent (the other candidate was invited but did not attend). In November, Democrats can vote for Bikram Mohanty for Georgia State Senate District 8, Dexter Sharper for Georgia House District 177 (unopposed incumbent), Daniel Blackman for Public Service Commission, Robbin Shipp for Labor Commissioner, and of course Jason Carter for Governor.
