HD 176 Special Election and DPG delegate election: LCDP Monthly Meeting 2019-02-04

Early voting continues for the special election for Georgia statehouse District 176: GOTV!

It’s also time for the election of delegates to the Democratic Party of Georgia (DPG) for four-year terms. LCDP State Committee Members represent Lowndes County Democrats at the state level. They are elected by the Lowndes County Democratic Committee. Any Lowndes County Democrat can run. State Committee members set the policies of the Democratic Party of Georgia, and every four years they elect the state officers, which they just did last weekend.

Current delegates are Gretchen Quarterman, Dexter Sharper, and Debra Tann, all of whom just attended the state party meeting.

If you are thinking of running for office later, start coming to LCDP meetings now.

The Valdosta State University Chapter of the NAACP Has Asked the Lowndes County Democratic Party to Participate in the Upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr., March and Candlelight Vigil

The Mu Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People at Valdosta State University will host the Lowndes County Democratic Party’s Newly Elected Chairman Gerone “Andy” Anderson as a guest speaker at their upcoming commemorative Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., march and candlelight vigil. Chairman Anderson will discuss, “Why the fight is not yet over for African-Americans. And why it is imperative that we educate ourselves as to what form racism has taken on in 2019.” Please come out and join us to commemorate the life and legacy of America’s greatest Civil Rights Leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

When: 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 21, 2019

Where: Meeting at the University Center Fountain, located near the end at the front steps of West Hall; The march starts promptly at 11:00 a.m.; Candlelight Vigil to Follow Immediately after the march.

A MLK, Jr., Brunch will be held following the march in the Student Union Ballrooms.

MLK, Jr., Day of Service from 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.

Lowndes County Democratic Party Elects New Officers

For Immediate Release.

Valdosta, December 14, 2018 — The Lowndes County Democratic Party elected officers for 2018-2020 during its last meeting on December 3, 2018. Mr. Gerone “Andy” Anderson was elected as the Party’s new Chairman. Dr. Dennis Marks was re-elected as Vice chairman for Elections. Valdosta City Council Member Vivian Miller-Cody was re-elected as Vice Chairwoman for Membership. Mr. Glenn Ritchie was newly elected as Vice Chairman for Qualifying. Mr. William Lamb was newly elected as Secretary. Mr. Ronnie Pierce was elected as the Party’s new Treasurer.

Mr. Andy highlighted the objectives for the Lowndes County Democratic Party going forward. He said, “We need to get down to business right away; get people engaged, registered and voting; and work with all of Lowndes County.” He asserted that “Building a Strong Democratic Party is a must!”

Mr. Andy pledged to work with old and new members, especially putting our young voters on committees so they’re ready to take their rightful place in the Party. He would also work to bring other organizations on board. He urged: “Come to our next meeting. We welcome each and every one. We move forward together and work as a team.”

The Lowndes County Democratic Party is committed to supporting Democratic candidates across the entire state of Georgia, who are committed to improving their communities in preparation of future generations, through their participation in civics and government. If you care about topics such as Education, Healthcare, the Environment, Criminal Justice Reform, Student Debt, Public Transportation, then please come to our next meeting.
