She began by stating all of our prayers go out to his family. She stated he had the courage and will to serve others. She was inspired by his spirit, especially how he always spoke about the importance of voting, and he was a fearless leader. She was reminded of what Representative and Civil Rights Leader John Lewis always said about getting into “Good Trouble,” and she stated that is what Mr. Anderson did and that was who he was.
Secretary William Lamb reminded members that they can go on to the Lowndes County Democratic Party’s website to review the minutes for several of our last few meetings including our meetings on June 01, 2020 and on July 06, 2020.

A motion was made to approve the Treasurer’s Report, the motion was seconded, and the report was accepted into the record.

A motion was entertained for Mr. Lawton to fill this position, the motion was seconded, and Mr. Lawton was elected by acclamation to fill this vacancy. Dr. Marks then went on to announce that we have a vacancy for Super District 4, Post 4 and he recommended that Pam Hubbard be appointed to this position. A motion was proposed for Pam Hubbard to fill this position, the motion was seconded, and Pam Hubbard was elected by acclamation approved to be on the committee. Dr. Marks then announced another vacancy for Super District 5, Post 1 and he stated that J.D. Rice was willing to serve in this position. A motion was proposed for J.D. Rice to fill this position, the motion was seconded, and Mr. Rice was elected by acclamation to be on the committee. Dr. Marks then turned to the vacancy at At-Large, Post 2 and he stated there were two volunteers that were eligible for the position: Debra Rutland and Warren Lee. Vivian Miller-Cody nominated Debra Rutland for the position and Ms. Rutland was voted to fill the position by acclamation.
Dr. Marks then turned to the unfortunate issue of having to fill Mr. Anderson’s chairmanship until the end of 2020. Dr. Marks stated Vivian Miller-Cody wanted to step forward to fill this position. A motion was proposed for Vivian Miller-Cody to become Chairwoman of the Lowndes County Democratic Party, the motion was seconded, and she was then voted by acclamation to fill the position. Since Mrs. Miller-Cody was now taking on the position of Chairwoman, her other position for Vice-Chair for Membership was now open. Constalina James volunteered to be nominated for this position until the end of this term and she was voted by acclamation to fill this position. Dr. Marks also informed the body that Vice Chair for Qualifying Kathryn Grant had resigned her position and Dr. Marks recommended Pam Hubbard for the position. Ms. Hubbard was formally nominated for the position and hearing no other nominations she was voted to the position by acclamation. Our newly appointed Chairwoman Vivian Miller-Cody thanked the committee and the body for their vote of confidence in her filling the position until the end of the year.
She then called on Dr. Marks to give his report regarding upcoming elections. Dr. Marks reminded members that early voting for the primary run-off for U.S. House Congressional District 1 between Lisa Ring and Joyce Marie Griggs was ending next Tuesday, August 11, 2020. He also thanked Kathryn Grant and Pam Hubbard for volunteering to monitor the opening of absentee ballots and adjudicate any questioned ballots. Ms. Grant expressed concern that not all the elections staff nor the monitors from the other party were wearing masks during the monitoring and adjudication process. Dr. Marks promised to pursue the issue. Dr. Marks then reminded members that the Lowndes County Democratic Party needed “all hands on deck” for the upcoming elections. He emphasized that we need volunteers for getting out the vote, phone banking, handing out flyers, and doing whatever we can to inform voters of the upcoming elections.
Dr. Treva Gear then made a request for volunteers to help her campaign for Georgia Senate District 8. She asked members to help her phone bank, text bank, and send postcards out on her behalf. She asked for members to contact her Volunteer Coordinator Emily Young and to go onto her website for more information about how they can help her campaign.
Ronnie Pierce then brought up an issue involving the LCDP’s storage unit because it was previously in Chairman Anderson’s name. He stated that we will need to contact the storage unit rental location and have the unit turned over into his or Vivian Miller-Cody’s name. He also brought up the issue of having to remove Mr. Anderson’s name from the account and add Vivian Miller-Cody. It was decided that Vivian Miller-Cody’s and Ronnie Pierce’s names would be added to the storage unit and Mrs. Miller-Cody’s name would be added to the LCDP’s bank account.
