The Lowndes County Democratic Party is a strong advocate for a public transportation system in Lowndes County. At our May, 2017, meeting, we hosted Corey Hull, of the Valdosta-Lowndes Metroplitan Planning Organization (VLMPO) and person most responsible for doing the legwork to move this issue forward. Things are slowly moving forward, but it still needs citizen support and input to our local politicians that have the ultimate say whether or not we will have public transportation in Lowndes County.
We must continue to lobby our local officials in favor of public transportation. The business community of Lowndes County has repeatedly said they favor public transportation. Most citizens I have spoken with are in favor of public transportation. Please call, write, or email your local representatives at both city and county level. Better yet, take a night and show up at the city council and county commission meeting and during the “Citizens Wanting to Be Heard” section of their meeting just get up and say you’re in favor of public transportation and want to see a system here in Lowndes County. The more they hear it the better.
