March to the Polls with Dexter Sharper 2014-10-26

Running unopposed for House District 177, Dexter Sharper is helping other Democratic candidates get elected by getting out the vote through a march to the polls on the new Sunday voting day, October 26th, that the Lowndes County Democratic Party (LCDP) got added to the voting calendar this year (only only second county in the state). And what about past and potential future precinct closings, even though LCDP prevented any from happening this year?

On Saturday, October 18, Valdosta’s Dexter Sharper, a state representative for Lowndes County, made a formal announcement in an effort to encourage voting— “March to the Polls”— which is scheduled for Sunday, October 26. Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter did something she’s never done before so she could come encourage you to vote: she left a Habitat build early to come speak at the Lowndes County Courthouse last Thursday. Now you can vote for Jason Carter for Governor and the rest of the Democratic slate starting Monday October 13th.

You can vote tomorrow at the Board of Elections, 2808 N. Oak Street, Valdosta, GA. Facebook event.

Or you can vote Sunday October 26th, since LCDP asked and the Board of Elections approved Lowndes to be the second county in Georgia to authorize Sunday voting.

Rosalynn Carter at the Lowndes County Courthouse 6PM Thursday Oct 9th 2014

To encourage voting, and to support Jason Carter for governor of Georgia, Rosalynn Carter will speak at the historic Lowndes County Courthouse at 6PM tomorrow, Thursday, 9 October 2014 (facebook event).

Mrs. Carter is the former First Lady and grandmother of Jason Carter. She is a founder of the Carter Center in Atlanta, where she chairs its Mental Health Task Force. She is also chair of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving (RCI) at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, and she is the author or co-author of several books. Plus she was involved in all of Jimmy Carter’s campaigns for governor of Georgia and for president of the United States.

State of city, county, and state –LCDP Monthly Meeting 2014-10-06

We are drawing close to the busiest time of the year. Election season is upon us.  We will hear from State Representative Dexter Sharper on upcoming legislative schedule (he is unopposed this year), early voting, GOTV events and more.

Lowndes County Commissioner Demarcus Marshall will give us a wrap-up on his first term and welcomes your input on his upcoming term (he also is un-opposed).

And Valdosta City Councilwoman Sandra Tooley will talk to us about her first year in office. Our elected officials can give us special insights into how we can help to get out the vote and elect those who represent our entire community.

We will also hear about local GOTV events, phone banks, and more. If you ever thought of being involved in the Democratic process, now is the time.
