Apply to be on Board of Elections — April 28 (noon) Deadline

Have you ever wondered how the Board of Elections is selected? Are you interested in serving in a non-partisan way in the community?

The deadline to apply is Noon on Monday April 28th.

We received the following e-mail from Deb Cox, elections supervisor.

Subject: FYI – Board of Elections position open for Apps

Board of Elections – 3 year term (appointment)
Application process: Apply by sending a letter to the District Attorney, for presentation to the Grand Jury (Grand Jury selects and sends to the Chief Judge for approval.) Chief Judge selects and sends to the State for approval.

Apply by sending a letter requesting consideration for appointment to the Lowndes County Board of Elections to:

Drop it off in person at the DA’s office, 327 N Ashley St, Valdosta, 31601.

The job is a paying position, about $200 per month, and requires attendance at a 1 time per month Board Meeting in the Elections office and attendance on Election days. All other training, trips, etc. are optional.

So, if you’d like to serve a three year term on the Board of Elections, now is the time to apply.

Non binding Democratic Questions – May 20th 2014

Local government transparency, GMO labeling, education, ethics, Medicaid, and minimum wage: you can vote (nonbinding) on all these things May 20th 2014 in the Democratic primary.

Both statewide and Lowndes County nonbinding questions will be on the primary ballot May 20th, so remember to turn out and vote in the primary. Everyone in Lowndes County who takes a Democratic primary ballot can vote on these questions. That’s the same date as the special election for Lowndes County Commission District 5, so be sure to vote for that, too, either in your precinct on May 20th (you can find your polling place online through Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page) or at the Board of Elections in early voting April 28 – May 16.
